Pumpkin Cheesecake Brownies

Pumpkin Cheesecake Brownies | Adventures of a Hungry Redhead
I’ll have you know, that I’ve now posted six consecutive recipes without pumpkin, which in the middle of fall is just plain rude. I am sorry. You know, we were just getting started and I didn’t want to be too needy with the pumpkin and force it on you, but as is the case with my life, I played it too cool and here we are, well into November without a pumpkin recipe. Fall is out there wondering “is she even interested in me anymore?” Oh Fall, of course I am! I just didn’t want to scare you off and risk early winter. Hug it out?

Eating Pumpkin Cheesecake Brownies are as good as a hug. Like a hug for your stomach. I get requests for this recipe a lot, probably because it involves the three basic food groups: brownies, pumpkin and cheesecake. Okay, you’re right — there are way more than three basic food groups. Let’s not forget chocolate, ice cream, peanut butter and cake.  And it’s not so much a pyramid as a heptagon. Google it.

White Chocolate Brownies

White Chocolate Brownies | Adventures of a Hungry Redhead
Confession:  I did not make these because I thought they sounded particularly tasty. I don’t mean to be racist, but I don’t like white chocolate. I made these because a wonderful friend requested something white chocolate at the race track and I aim to please. After some searching of the interwebs, this recipe looked like a white chocolate winner I could pull off. Then, something quite fascinating happened at the end of this process… I wanted to eat the entire pan!

Fired Up Friday Nov 2

2 Nov

You know this jam is going to be blasting when I’m running across the Golden Gate Bridge on Sunday – I can go fast, I can go slow, I can go places nobody else goes. Betchya never seen something like that! I think you should use it to add an extra mile, an extra minute or an extra set. Or, just work out the old fashioned way and drop it like it’s hot playa!

The actual remix I have on my iPod is available for download here (hot!), but for your viewing pleasure, here is the official Nelly Furtado – Big Hoops (Bigger the Better) video.

Best Thing I Ever Ate

2 Nov

Golden Gate Bridge
Today I head to San Francisco to run in the U.S. Half Marathon with my lovely friend Al. It’s a good thing I’m going to be running 13.1 miles because San Fran happens to be my favorite food city. This means I get to carb load on Saturday night (likely more than I really need to) and have a celebratory meal after burning 1300 calories. That is, if I don’t blow it all at the post-race party. Have you ever noticed how much bad food is at those things? Oh wait.. I should stop running in races that advertise “chocolate and champagne” or “free frozen yogurt” at the finish if that really bothered me.

This seems like a good time to tell you about the best thing I’ve ever eaten, because it occurred earlier this year in San Francisco, the day after my last half marathon.  Now, it’s hard to claim something as “the best” I’ve ever eaten, because I like to categorize things: best cake, best pasta, best pancakes, best ribs etc. But as I love dessert over all other foods, this would probably trump any of my other favorites if you waved them in front of my face (and why are you waving food in my face anyway? It’s going to spill. Or get in my eye). Continue reading

Slutty Brownies

Slutty Brownies | Adventures of a Hungry Redhead
This post is rated R. It is Restricted to those over the age of 18 and those who are not on a diet. This is a filthy, obscene, graphic post. If you are sitting down and meet the requirements listed above, you may proceed… with  a glass of milk.

If you are on Pinterest, you are surely already aware of the Slutty Brownie. It has to be one of the most popular and widely circulated pins on the site, at least in the food category (I think partially because moms and grandmas get a thrill out of pinning something with the word “slutty” in it). The concept is simple: layer of cookie dough, layer of Oreos, topped with brownie batter. Uh, yeah, THAT just happened. Did you just do a double take? Knees get weak? Having funny feelings reminiscent of adolescence?  Don’t worry. It’s all natural. Continue reading

Happy Anniversary Giveaway – Closed

31 Oct

This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations to Eric who has some Almond Joy type bakery headed his way!

Adventures of a Hungry Redhead is officially a month old! Thank you for your comments, tweets and facebook love. But I want more, more, more! So I’m going to bribe you celebrate by offering home baked hungry redhead goodies delivered to your door! Here’s how it works:

Halloween Candy

Today is Halloween. I want to know what your favorite Halloween candy is. Answer by commenting on this post. One commenter, chosen at random, will receive a batch of baked treats made with or inspired by your favorite Halloween candy. If you retweet my new post that will go up this afternoon (and it will be a doozie!), it counts as a second entry. (Are you following @1hungryredhead on Twitter?) You must comment or tweet  before midnight (ET) tonight to be entered. Sorry family, you’re ineligible because you get free baked goods all the time.

And yes, this is all a grand scheme for an excuse to buy mass quantities of Halloween candy when it goes on sale. You saw right through me lover. But you can’t feel used because you win baked goods.

Peanut Butter Jelly Bread

Peanut Butter Jelly Bread | Adventures of a Hungry Redhead

This bread takes you back – it’s old school. My school did not have hot lunch, so I brought a bagged lunch every day. And this foodie admittedly brought the same thing every day: peanut butter & jelly sandwich, fruit snacks, oreos (or other cookie) and Hi-C (later becoming Mountain Dew when I was a cool teenager).  Now that we’re all responsible adults, educated in nutrition, we have  to admit… that was the most awesome lunch ever. You know, as opposed to all the salads or turkey sandwiches we all eat now. Damn I miss the days of being a hyperactive carb burning machine.

Fired Up Friday Oct 26

26 Oct

It’s starting to get chilly outside (a.k.a. no more 80’s in Atlanta), but how can you not get fired up with this: Alex Clare – Too Close. You know it as the song from the IE9 commercials. I know it as a mainstay of my iPod. I read that Clare was actually dropped from his record label right before this song was picked up by Microsoft. Ooops. Now get out there and kick some ass, because you can either be sore tomorrow or sorry tomorrow (awesome line stolen from a photo on Pinterest).

Chewy Peanut Butter Cookies

24 Oct

Chewy Peanut Butter Cookies | Adventures of a Hungry Redhead

Are people as particular about peanut butter cookies as they are about brownies, or chocolate chip cookies, or sugar cookies?  With the later three, there are clear disagreements on “perfection.” Some like a fudgy brownie versus a cakey brownie. Some argue butter all the way with chocolate chip cookies, while others swear by shortening. For sugar cookies: should they be thick and chewy or thin and crisp? But what about peanut butter cookies? Is there any other way to make peanut butter cookies besides soft and chewy?

That is exactly how these cookies are. They are super soft, tender and delicate… like a baby. You have to be gentle with them… like a baby. They are not crisp on the edges whatsoever… like  baby?  These cookies are delicate and I warn you: they don’t travel well. Do not attempt to mail these cookies or put them in your luggage because they will arrive in pieces… like a baby.

Big Soft Sugar Cookies

22 Oct

I know what you’re thinking right now. You’re thinking one word: Lofthouse. If you don’t know what Lofthouse cookies are, then I guess that’s not what you were thinking. You were probably thinking something more like “sweet Jesus, get off of that screen and into my mouth you frosted fiend you!” Wait… are you batman?

Lofthouse cookies are the perfectly round, perfectly frosted, perfectly sprinkled sugar cookies you can buy by the dozen at any grocery store, Target or Wal-Mart. And let it be know right off that bat that I am NOT opposed to store bought cookies; they have their place. When it comes to sugar cookies, Lofthouse cookies are pretty hard to beat because of how sinfully soft and fluffy they are on the inside. Growing up, my mom and I always called them “softy cookies”  because they would literally fold and bend in half while you were holding them, they were so soft.

I’ve seen lots of copy cat Lofthouse recipes floating around the internet, but this one looked the most promising.
