Red Velvet Cheesecake Brownies
We’ve already discussed my love/hate relationship with cream cheese. We’ve also discussed my feelings on the use of boxed mixes. So, let’s skip the formalities and just declare that Red Velvet Cheesecake Brownies are delicious. And they are red, which makes them perfect for Valentine’s Day. And they’re super quick and easy, which makes them perfect for completion by tomorrow.

Now, Betty Crocker calls these “Red Velvet Espresso and Cream Swirled Brownies,” but I choose to leave “espresso” out of the title, because I couldn’t taste it at all in these brownies. According to redhead math, the subtraction of “espresso” from the title allows me to insert the word “cheesecake.” Continue reading →

Cake Mix Cookies

In the words of my favorite caffeine pill addicted Saved by The Bell character, Jessie Spano: “NO TIME! NO TIME! There’s never any time!” Well Jessie, we may not be on the swim team, the cheerleading squad, student council, the yearbook committee, science club and in the school play while pulling down the highest grades at Bayside, but I think most of us can related to your caffeine crash rant this time of the year.

Not only is there no time (seriously, is the sun setting at 5PM?) but everything takes more time. The lines at Target are crazy right now, which is great when you decide to swing by after the gym to get some body wash and then as you’re standing in line you realize the sweat has made your mascara run (don’t judge, I go to the gym right after work) so it looks like you’ve been crying. Probably not so shocking to see someone crying at Target during the holidays I guess.

So here we are on Christmas Eve and you’ve run out of time and have no interest in battling the crowds at the grocery store for evaporated milk, caramels, peppermint extract, pecans or what have you, but you’re on the hook to bring cookies to family Christmas. This sounds like a job for cake mix; the secret weapon of a baker’s pantry. Continue reading →

Dirty Slutty Brownies | Adventures of a Hungry Redhead
Remember that slutty brownie recipe? Remember how I said the variations were endless on how to pair the cookie dough, cookie and brownies flavors? Well… I went there. I went to a dark and dirty place and I took that innocent maiden Little Debbie with me (although maybe she’s gone all Lindsay Lohan now that Hostess caved). If you are a chocolate fiend, if the words “too rich” are not part of your vocabulary, if you take your brownies darker than your coffee, then these are for you. I dub them: Dirty Slutty Brownies.

Warning: these are probably illegal in 20 states. And if not, they are most definitely the scourge of the American Diabetes Association, Weight Watchers, the National Dental Association and your ass. Continue reading →

If you are on Pinterest, you are surely already aware of the Slutty Brownie. It has to be one of the most popular and widely circulated pins on the site, at least in the food category (I think partially because moms and grandmas get a thrill out of pinning something with the word “slutty” in it). The concept is simple: layer of cookie dough, layer of Oreos, topped with brownie batter. Uh, yeah, THAT just happened. Did you just do a double take? Knees get weak?
