I’m not a big fan of copy cat recipes, because, let’s be honest, the secret ingredient in commercial baked goods is preservatives, which neither Publix nor Kroger sell. Still I get sucked in by the beautiful blog photos and the idea that I could make my very own Hostess, Little Debbie or Starbucks treat. Mostly because it feels like it would only be half as bad for me if I made it myself. Hey, if there aren’t any preservatives, that could be half true. Redhead math just kicked in and told me that half as bad minus half true equals a pretend Hostess Chocolate Cupcake.
I was not allowed Hostess or Little Debbie type products as a kid. Being bared from such cream-filled and frosted wonders likely explains my peculiar personality and behavior. No, wait, the red hair and the ovaries explain that. Continue reading
Tomorrow is my birthday, so I had a grand plan to make today’s post a birthday cake theme. I had pinned and gone through dozens of birthday cake flavored treats and thought I found the perfect one, but alas, be it the recipe or me, it was a birthday cake fail. But you know what? That’s ok, because it means I get to share these Peanut Butter Cup S’more bars with you instead, which I would gladly accept in lieu of cake… but only if cake really wasn’t an option, especially Publix marble cake with buttercream frosting. Oreo. Peanut butter. Marshmallow. Covered in chocolate.
I barely know what a moon pie is. I think they’re a southern thing because I first saw them in gas stations on road trips below the Mason-Dixon line. It’s basically marshmallow sandwiched between two cookies and dipped in chocolate. I think this is called a moon pie because it’s so flippin good you fly right past cloud nine to the moon when you eat them.
