Fired Up Friday Nov 2

2 Nov

You know this jam is going to be blasting when I’m running across the Golden Gate Bridge on Sunday – I can go fast, I can go slow, I can go places nobody else goes. Betchya never seen something like that! I think you should use it to add an extra mile, an extra minute or an extra set. Or, just work out the old fashioned way and drop it like it’s hot playa!

The actual remix I have on my iPod is available for download here (hot!), but for your viewing pleasure, here is the official Nelly Furtado – Big Hoops (Bigger the Better) video.

Best Thing I Ever Ate

Golden Gate Bridge
Today I head to San Francisco to run in the U.S. Half Marathon with my lovely friend Al. It’s a good thing I’m going to be running 13.1 miles because San Fran happens to be my favorite food city. This means I get to carb load on Saturday night (likely more than I really need to) and have a celebratory meal after burning 1300 calories. That is, if I don’t blow it all at the post-race party. Have you ever noticed how much bad food is at those things? Oh wait.. I should stop running in races that advertise “chocolate and champagne” or “free frozen yogurt” at the finish if that really bothered me.

This seems like a good time to tell you about the best thing I’ve ever eaten, because it occurred earlier this year in San Francisco, the day after my last half marathon.  Now, it’s hard to claim something as “the best” I’ve ever eaten, because I like to categorize things: best cake, best pasta, best pancakes, best ribs etc. But as I love dessert over all other foods, this would probably trump any of my other favorites if you waved them in front of my face (and why are you waving food in my face anyway? It’s going to spill. Or get in my eye). Continue reading

Fired Up Friday Oct 26

It’s starting to get chilly outside (a.k.a. no more 80’s in Atlanta), but how can you not get fired up with this: Alex Clare – Too Close. You know it as the song from the IE9 commercials. I know it as a mainstay of my iPod. I read that Clare was actually dropped from his record label right before this song was picked up by Microsoft. Ooops. Now get out there and kick some ass, because you can either be sore tomorrow or sorry tomorrow (awesome line stolen from a photo on Pinterest).

Fired Up Friday Oct 19

19 Oct

It’s Friday! Which means you need some new tunes to power through the weekend. I will not be running this weekend. I will be working Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta which means I will be up for pretty much 24 hours straight on Saturday. So thus, I pick Martin Solvieg – The Night Out for this week’s Fired Up Friday. And because Madeon rocks, I pick his remix. You want to spend the night out?

Fired Up Friday

I know pumpkin won the vote this week, but it’s Friday, which means its time for Fired Up Friday — here to make sure your iPod is filled with the motivation you need to get through that last mile, last turn, last hill or last call. Pumpkin can wait until the weekend.

I think the radio had an overdose of David Guetta this summer, but I’m glad at least one song from the Nothing But the Beat album didn’t get played to death: I’m a Machine ft. Crystal Nicole. I will need to be a machine for the next week as we get ready for the final race of the season – Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. If you see me sprinting across the Yokohama bridge, I might have this song playing in my brain.

To motivate your run, bike, swim, jujitsu or mall walking this weekend, I offer you this gem to add to your playlist. It’s perfect for when you need that last push at the homestretch or when you hit a hill. I’m going to need it if I expect to run 10 miles on Saturday. Plus, I think it’s an appropriate Fired Up Friday debut for Adventures of a Hungry Redhead – march to your own drummer and brace yourself…
