This Fired Up Friday song is an ode to my muscles. Burn baby burn.
Teriyaki Salmon
31 Jul
This is kind of a non-post. You see, I took my favorite teriyaki chicken and used the sauce to marinate salmon. Bam: Teriyaki Salmon.
I felt a need to post something not sugar-based today. A string of baking failures have left me melancholy and angry with sugar right now. Actually I’m more angry with flour. I’ll explain some other time. Continue reading
Monster Cookies
29 Jul
There are many things monstrous about these cookies:
1. They require a full jar of peanut butter
2. You’ll need a stick of butter in addition to the jar of peanut butter
3. They require four cups of oats
4. You add 1.5 cups of any and all mix-ins you like
5. The dough is monstrously addictive
Oh yeah, and it’s a Paula Deen recipe and some of you may think she is a monster. Continue reading
Tuesdaygram
23 Jul
So you know how I always have this excuse for falling off the face of the earth and not blogging… I call it “work.” While hanging my head in shame that I didn’t get a blog post up yesterday, it occurred to me that maybe my “work” is interesting enough to blog about. It’s interesting enough for a crapton of Instagramming! I keep putting “work” in quotes because… can working in car racing really be work? Traveling to a different race track each weekend, your desk is pit lane, surrounded by fast and gorgeous race cars, preparing for a live TV broadcast… Well, yeah, it’s a lot of work.
The days start with a 6:30 AM departure from the hotel and, if you’re lucky (and it’s not race day), you’ll leave the track around 7:30 PM. Each day is like running a marathon, whilst juggling; you have to keep each driver on task with their list of interviews and fan appearances for the day (often there is more than one thing happening at a time). FYI, race car drivers are like squirrels; they are quick and nimble, distracted by shiny things, and quick to escape when you need them. All day you have to remember to update your social media feeds with what’s going on and take photos of everything. The team’s website will also need constant updating. Then, at the end of the day, when you’re exhausted, sweaty, sun burnt, sore and have a headache, you must sit and write a press release (and cross your fingers that the internet in the media center works). If you’re lucky, the hotel is 30 minutes or less away from the track, but as most race tracks are in the middle of nowhere, don’t be shocked if you’re looking at a 45-minute drive back to the hotel. Fired Up Friday July 19
19 JulGreetings from Canada, where I thought it was too hot to run outside, so I opted for the hotel fitness room, only to discover it wasn’t air conditioned. Nor did it have an elliptical, to which my knee looked at me and winced “do I really have to run on the treadmill?” Yes.
I should spend lots of time in that crappy little fitness room on account of all the Tim Hortons (best donuts ever!) I will be consuming this weekend, but the question remains if I will actually be at the hotel between the hours of 6AM and 9PM anyway. Probably doesn’t matter in the long run, as I will be logging plenty of miles walking around this race track; down the hill, over the bridge, down the hill, across the paddock, back across, up the hill, across the bridge, up the hill.
No wait, the REAL question remains: is it donut or doughnut?
Tomorrow is Saturday. Listen to The Saturdays to get amped about that.
Vegan Banana Chocolate Swirl Bread
17 Jul
I like swirls. I’m an indecisive person, so swirls mean I don’t have to pick between flavors. Plus, swirls are pretty.

Sometimes though, I wait until too late in the day to take pictures, so I don’t have natural light and my pictures don’t look so pretty. Continue reading
Nutter Butter Icebox Cake
15 Jul
It’s summer. It’s hot. I’m seeing lots of “no bake” recipes pop up on Pinterest and blogs. I agree. Let’s not bake today. Let’s look for an excuse to buy Nutter Butters instead. And an excuse to make whipped cream.
You’d think one wouldn’t need an excuse to buy Nutter Butters and make whipped cream, both are delicious beyond compare. However, this redhead has no impulse control when it comes to Nutter Butters and whipped cream, which explains why I finished off the leftover whipped cream by scrapping it out of the bowl with the leftover Nutter Butters. I believe when I was a teenager I referred to that as a “snack.” I should probably refer to it more as a “relapse” these days. Continue reading
Fired Up Friday July 12
12 JulWhat’s my excuse? Tendinitis. Ran a total of 0 miles this week. So it looks like the Madison Mini Marathon on August 17 isn’t going to happen. Unless I’m like that kid in Rookie of The Year, and when this tendon heals, I’ll have super strength and speed! I guess it’s probably a good thing to take a break from running for a bit, especially in the Atlanta heat. Right now I’ve got eliptical, rollerblading, stationary bike and upper body strength training to keep me busy. I also have both my arms, both my legs, good doctors and mediocre insurance, so I’ll try not to whine too much about my bum knee too much.
This song has been stuck in my head. So I shall put it on my iPod. Although until recently I thought the chorus was “Good girls die young, bad girls do it well.” It is in fact “Live fast, die young. Bad girls do it well.” I myself, am a good girl, which would explain why I’m slow and old?
